Thought For The Day

RI President Ray Klinginsmith September Message

In August we celebrated the centenary of Rotary's first convention with so much of our success started with that meeting.

All of us want the second century of service to be even more successful than the first.

It is an honour to be Rotary’s 100th president.

Such success depends on the ability of our clubs to remain vibrant and vital. |
RI now offers more assistance to clubs, including creating the Rotary Coordinators program to assist district governors in providing information about Rotary International’s programs and best practices to the clubs.

Together we can make this century of service even more exciting than the last!

President James September Message

September is Rotary New Generations month. The youth of today are the Rotarians of tomorrow. Time and effort given over to youth projects is an investment for the future.

At the recent Rotary International 2010 Council on Legislation, the proposal to add a fifth Avenue of Service: Youth Service, was adopted, stressing the importance given to the coming generation of Rotarians.

Chair of the Youth committee Michael Denley is looking for Members to attend the Mock Interviews scheduled at St. Peter's School on 26th November also members to monitor a student for a day under the work shadowing scheme. |
Our next social activity is the annual Golf afternoon and Dinner at Guildford Golf Club on Wednesday 15th September. Why not bring along a guest and introduce them to the fun side of Rotary? Our thanks to Noel for making all of the arrangements.
This is quickly followed by the 1250 District Conference in Warwick over the weekend of 24th to 26th September. Thanks to everyone who are accompanying Valerie and myself at the Mercure Shakespeare Hotel in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Yours in Rotary, James. (Posted 28.09.10)

Rotary Information Bite : District Governor’s Visit

The District Governor has a duty to visit each Rotary club in the District. Simon Crowther's visit to our Club is scheduled for Wednesday 22nd September.

The governor will not wish to see anything in the nature of a ‘special performance’; but rather to see the club as it is, and to make some assessment of its achievements, its atmosphere, and perhaps its shortcomings.

The visit is not an inquisition, but an occasion for friendship and helpful encouragement. |

Presidents Handover 2010/11

Wednesday 30th June 2010 brought to a close Rotary Year 2009/10 and start of 2010/11.

President Bill past the Presidential chain over to James wishing him a fun and success.

Bill thanked everyone for their support during his term, bringing attention to the major challenges ahead of aging and falling membership, coupled with members inability to commit time to Rotary at the levels sustainable in the past.

James followed with a belief that with realism and understanding of the issues we will adapt and develop to remain a source of inspiration for other Clubs in District 1250. |
James handed over the Vice President's chain to Peter and Peter the Junior Vice President's chain to Kathy.

We thank them for their commitment to the Club and to the Rotary movement.
